When golfers think about Japan, Mt. Fuji often comes to mind—not only for its breathtaking views but also for the incredible golf experiences at its foothills. The area surrounding Kawaguchiko, Narusawa, Yamanakako, and Gotemba is one of the densest golf regions in Japan. If you tried to play them all, one round per day, a whole week still wouldn’t be enough.

Starting from Kawaguchiko, the most iconic is Fujizakura Country Club, a venue that has hosted professional tournaments. Narrow fairways lined with pine trees create a serious and challenging atmosphere. In contrast, Kawaguchiko Country Club is more relaxed, conveniently located near the lake and tourist spots, with wide fairways and open views—perfect for combining golf with leisure travel.
Moving into Narusawa, there are two very different styles. Narusawa Golf Club is a traditional walking course with caddie play, known as one of the true “classic” Japanese layouts. Just nearby, Forest Narusawa Golf & Country Club offers a gentler experience, surrounded by trees and cooler summer air, making it a favorite for those who want comfort as well as challenge.
Close to Yamanakako lies Fuji Golf Club, one of Japan’s oldest courses, founded in the early Showa era. Walking with a caddie here feels like stepping back into the roots of Japanese golf. Not far away is Fuji Classic Country Club, designed by the world-renowned Desmond Muirhead, known for its bold lines and dramatic views of Mt. Fuji from many holes—often ranked as one of the most “photogenic” golf courses in Japan.
Heading toward Gotemba, the options multiply. Gotemba Kogen Golf Club has rolling terrain and panoramic views, making it ideal for groups of friends or company outings. Gotemba Country Club is balanced and well-maintained, a safe choice for all levels. The historic Sankyo Fuji Golf Club (formerly Fuji International) remains a favorite among local golfers, praised for its consistency and easy access. On top of that, the PGM group courses around Gotemba provide even more flexibility, from casual layouts to mid-tier challenges.
So, how many golf courses are there at the foot of Mt. Fuji? The simple answer: far too many to count. Whether you are looking for a world-class challenge or a relaxed resort round, Kawaguchiko, Narusawa, Yamanakako, and Gotemba together form a true golfer’s paradise in Japan.
