Most golfers who message us for the first time begin the same way:“I’ve got five days. I want to play three or four rounds, see Mt. Fuji, stay somewhere relaxing, and still have time to enjoy Tokyo. How should I plan it?”

Behind that question is excitement, but also uncertainty.Japan golf is unlike golf in any other country. The scenery is breathtaking, the courses are beautifully maintained, and the service is exceptional—but the logistics can be confusing, and a simple mistake in routing or timing can turn a dream trip into a tiring one.

After years of arranging private chauffeur-driven golf trips in the Mt. Fuji region, we’ve learned that a perfect 5-day itinerary follows the natural rhythm of the mountains, avoids weekend surcharges, and respects the body’s energy over consecutive rounds. This article shares the exact approach we use to design journeys that feel effortless.

Why Five Days Works So Well

Five days gives you the ideal balance:Day 1 for travel and settling in.Days 2–4 for three quality rounds.Day 5 for Tokyo, shopping, or a final relaxing stop before flying home.

It’s long enough to enjoy the region, but short enough that golfers don’t feel rushed. And if the schedule starts on a Monday or Tuesday, you avoid the biggest enemy of a Japan golf budget: weekend green fee spikes.

The Key Decisions: When You Arrive, What Day You Play, and How You Move

Before choosing courses, we always look at three things:

  1. Arrival day and time

  2. What days fall on a weekend

  3. The group’s fitness level and playing style

These three details determine your entire route.

If you arrive late in the afternoon, you shouldn’t play on Day 1.If Saturday and Sunday fall inside the schedule, those days are best kept for sightseeing or moving hotels. And if you have a mix of high-handicap and experienced players, the order of difficulty matters.

When these pieces fit together, the whole itinerary becomes smooth and enjoyable—never rushed.

The Ideal Course Flow: One Scenic Warm-Up, One Technical Challenge, One Signature Course

Choosing the “right” courses isn’t about picking the famous names. It’s about understanding what makes the Mt. Fuji golf region special.

We usually follow a three-course sequence:

Round 1: A scenic, confidence-building opener

Examples: Fuji River Golf Club, courses around FujinomiyaWide fairways, open views, and the first unforgettable glimpse of Mt. Fuji behind the greens. This round shakes off travel fatigue and introduces players to Japanese greens—faster and more demanding than many visitors expect.

Round 2: A true Fuji-area classic with strategic layouts

Examples: Fujizakura CC, Fuji Classic, Lake Kawaguchi area coursesThese courses bring more elevation changes, more precision, and more personality. The mountain air feels fresh, the pace is unhurried, and golfers begin to feel deeply connected to the landscape.

Round 3: A championship-level experience near Gotemba

Examples: Taiheiyo Gotemba West, Sanko GC, Gotemba Country ClubThe final round is meant to leave an impression—a sweeping valley backdrop, crisp mountain weather, and a sense that you have fully experienced Fuji golf at its best.

If a group wants a fourth round, we usually choose a Tokyo-area course on the final afternoon so that returning to the city is seamless.

Day-by-Day Flow That Actually Feels Good

Here’s the rhythm that keeps golfers energized rather than exhausted:

Day 1 – Arrival and Scenic Transfer

No golf.Instead, we pick you up, stop at a major golf shop like Victoria Golf or Golf5 if needed, then follow the mountain road toward Fujinomiya or Kawaguchiko.A good dinner and a quiet night start the trip on the right foot.

Day 2 – Round 1 + Relaxed Local Sightseeing

Tee off around 10:00.Finish by 15:00.Visit a shrine, a lakeside viewpoint, or the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center on the way back.End the day at a comfortable hotel or an onsen ryokan.

Day 3 – Round 2 + Hot Spring Stay

Another morning tee time. After the round, stop by Oishi Park, Lake Kawaguchi, or a quiet forest path for photos.Stay at a proper hot spring ryokan this night—everyone sleeps well after golf.

Day 4 – Round 3 + Move to Tokyo

Play the Gotemba area, then head back toward Tokyo in the late afternoon.Dinner is flexible—ramen, yakiniku, sushi, or simply explore.

Day 5 – Tokyo Enjoyment + Departure

No rushing.Breakfast, light shopping, maybe Asakusa or Ginza, then the airport.

This pattern prevents early-morning stress, avoids long drives on consecutive days, and gives golfers time to breathe and appreciate the trip.

Why Course Selection Matters More Than People Expect

From the outside, “Mt. Fuji golf” looks simple—you see pictures of Fuji behind the green and think any course will do.But the reality is more complicated:

Some courses have stunning views but steep terrain that exhausts players. Some have fast championship greens that surprise golfers used to softer fairways. Some require four players per group. Some include lunch, some don’t.And some are wonderful—but only if paired with the correct hotel location and transfer time.

A good five-day itinerary is not “as many courses as possible.”It’s choosing the right sequence so that each day builds on the previous one.

Why Private Chauffeur Is the Core of a Successful Japan Golf Trip

Maps make everything look close.Reality is different.

Mountain roads, toll gates, parking logistics, winter closures, and unpredictable traffic around Gotemba outlets can add unnecessary stress.

With a private driver:

Your clubs stay in the vehicle. You never carry luggage between stations. You never rush for trains. You stay rested, arrive calm, and leave on time.

In short, the trip becomes what a golf vacation should be—smooth.

Building Your Own 5-Day Trip

If you’re just getting started, write down three things:

  1. Your preferred arrival day

  2. Whether you want three or four rounds

  3. Whether a hot spring ryokan stay is important

With just that information, it becomes easy to build a route that feels natural, fits your budget, and showcases the best of the Fuji region.

Or if you’d rather skip the planning, simply send us:“I have five days and want to play three rounds. Here’s when I can travel.”From there, we’ll handle the details—courses, routing, hotels, timings, and transport.

Japan golf is meant to be enjoyed, not puzzled over.Let the mountains, the weather, and the rhythm of Fuji guide your journey.
